Create Tests

Blackboard Ultra tests offer versatile assessment tools with various question types, such as multiple choice, true/false, short answer, essay, and matching. The user-friendly interface simplifies creation, management, and grading. Features like question pools and randomization enhance test integrity, while adaptive release settings ensure availability based on specific criteria. Automated grading and customizable feedback streamline the grading process. Tests are accessible, mobile-friendly, and integrate seamlessly with the Gradebook. Security features like time limits, password protection, and Respondus LockDown Browser enhance test security. Overall, Blackboard Ultra tests provide a flexible, efficient, and secure method for evaluating student performance. 

Create Tests  

  1. On the Course Content page, in the desired location, click on the + icon.  
  1. Select Create to open the Create Item panel. 
  1. Select Test from the Create Item panel to open the New Test page. 
    • The New Test Page has three customizable components. 
      • Title and test visibility  
      • Test settings 
      • Add questions to a test 
  1. Edit the name of the test in the upper left corner.  
    • By default, the text supplied will be “New Test” along with the item’s creation date.  
  1. Select appropriate visibility  
    • In addition to visible or hidden, instructors can set Release Conditions
      • Release content by date can be used to ensure content is covered in a specific order and tests are available on a specific day and time. 
      • Release content based on performance requires students to demonstrate understanding by earning a specific score on an assessment. 
  1. Select the + icon to open the menu and select a question type
    • You can choose a question type, add a question pool, upload questions from a file or reuse questions and content from existing assessments 
    • If you don’t add content, the test won’t appear on the Course Content page. 
  1. The Test Content area opens where you type the question-and-answer choices
  1. Select the Points box to type a new value.  
    • Questions have a default value of 1 point.  
  1. By default, “Allow students to add content at end of assessment” is turned on.  
    • If students do not need to add additional content, like text, supporting files, or attachments, deselect this option. 
    • Content added by student is not a gradable component of the test.
