Combine vs Crosslist

Combined vs. Cross-listed options in Blackboard

The cross-listed option in Blackboard is a single course that is offered under multiple departments or subjects. This means the course has the same content, requirements, and credit, but can be enrolled in through different departmental listings. To cross-list a course the request needs to be submitted to the MMU Registrar’s office, this process is done within Anthology Student.

combined course in Blackboard is a course that merges multiple sections or courses into a single parent course. This allows instructors to manage content, assignments, and communications from one central location, while students from different sections access the same unified course materials and activities. This setup simplifies course administration and provides consistent learning experiences for all students involved. To combine a course the request needs to be submitted to the MMU IT Office, this process is done within Blackboard.

For Instructors:

  • Parent Course Management: Instructors will manage content, assignments, and grades in the parent course. The child courses will be linked to this parent course.

  • Unified Content: All materials, announcements, and discussions will be centralized in the parent course, simplifying updates and communication.

  • Enrollment: Instructors will see all students from the merged child courses enrolled in the parent course, making it easier to track participation and performance.

For Students:

  • Single Course Access: Students will access the parent course but will still see the appropriate course heading, where they will find all their course materials, assignments, and communications.

  • Enrollment: Student will see all students from the merged child courses enrolled in the parent course as well.
